Our Story
Who we are
We are a bunch of broken people who love God and want to worship Him with our lives everyday. We come from all different backgrounds, ethnicities, stages of life and from different parts of Sydney to be God’s family.
Our story
The Chapel Sydney began on 26 May 2013, when 35 people gathered for worship in Chatswood.
Many of us grew up in migrant ethnic churches. We're grateful for that heritage, but over time we saw something new was needed. The second generation wasn't held back by language or culture. We were free to follow God's call to make disciples of all nations. That conviction moved us from a single-ethnicity church model to a multi-ethnic one, and it's the reason The Chapel Sydney exists.
We first met at Chatswood Church of Christ. In 2019, God opened the door for us to plant a second campus at the old Burwood Church of Christ. In 2021, circumstances outside our control meant we had to close the Chatswood campus, so we brought the whole church together in Burwood, where we gather today.
Much has changed since that first Sunday, but our heart hasn't. We exist to help people:
