Philemon 1:17-25

Questions

  1. How concerned was Paul for the reconciliation of Philemon and Onesimus? Give evidence from the text today, as well as from the whole letter.
  2. Why didn’t Paul just keep Onesimus by his side and not bother sending him back to Philemon? What was Paul trying to achieve?
  3. How concerned are you about reconciliation? Do you need to reconcile with anyone?
  4. Is reconciliation a necessary result of the gospel? Why or why not?

Prayer Suggestions

  1. Praise the Lord for reconciling us to himself and to one another. Pray that we would keep proclaiming this gospel message of reconciliation to ourselves and to others.
  2. Ask the Lord to help you forgive others as he has forgiven you. Be specific if there are people you still need to forgive in your life.
  3. Give thanks for all the things you have learned from Philemon.

TUE, 29th September

For today, read this article on forgiveness and reconciliation, and then note down some personal reflections: “How to Move from Forgiveness to Reconciliation” (by Steve Cornell).

WED, 30th September

Let’s conclude by spending some time to pray for the following topics in relation to what we have studied during this month:

  • Things to thank God for
  • Things that God has taught you
  • Non-Christian family members and friends
  • Church family and community members
  • Partners in missions and gospel ministries
  • Your own ministries at church

May the word of God continue to guide you throughout this year!
