MON, 30th March

John 17:1-19

Questions

  • How does the world portray eternal life? What did Jesus say about eternal life?
  • From verses 6-19, list out all the things Jesus had already done for his disciples.
  • What can we learn from Jesus’ prayer?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Pray for our church leaders to grow in godliness.
  • Give thanks for the praise team for leading us in worship every week.

TUE, 31st March

John 17:20-26

Questions

  • Who was Jesus praying for in this passage?
  • What kind of oneness was Jesus talking about in this passage? Give examples.
  • Have you contributed more to the unity (oneness) or the disunity of the church?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Give thanks that Jesus is willing to share his glory with us.
  • Repent of the times when we have caused disunity in the church (Christ’s body). Pray that we would go to great lengths to protect unity in Jesus and be given wisdom to know how to do that.

WED, 1st April

John 18:1-14

Questions

  • From which part of the passage can you witness:
    • Jesus’ courage,
    • Jesus’ authority,
    • Jesus’ protection of the disciples,
    • and Jesus’ obedience?
  • What did Peter do, and why? Put yourself in Peter’s shoes. How would you feel if Jesus told you to “put your sword away”?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Meditate on what you’ve learned about Jesus today and praise him.
  • Sometimes God’s way of getting to the goal is very different to our desired way. For Peter, he desired God’s goal (Jesus to be made king), but was confused about God’s chosen method. We may be like Peter in many ways. Think about this and pray that we would humbly accept God’s method and follow him even when we don’t fully understand why.

THU, 2nd April

John 18:15-27

Questions

  • Read verses 22-23 again. What happened? How does it make you feel knowing that Jesus went through this for you? (Read Isaiah 53:4-6 for reference.)
  • Why do you think Peter denied Jesus three times?
  • Have you been tempted to deny Jesus before? What happened and how did you respond? In what situations are you more likely to be tempted to deny Jesus?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Say sorry to God for the times that you have denied him and thank him for his forgiveness. Pray for courage to stand firm in Jesus and be proud of him as the world becomes increasingly hostile to Christians.
  • Pray for the persecuted Christians in a country that God has placed on your heart. Pray that the Holy Spirit will empower them to suffer for Jesus.
  • Meditate on Jesus’ love for you. Accept his love and thank him for it.

FRI, 3rd April

John 18:28-19:16

Questions

  • How many times did Pilate try to spare Jesus from death? Why didn’t Pilate want to execute Jesus? What is this repetition trying to emphasise about Jesus?
  • What eventually made Pilate give in?
  • Have there been times when you were reluctant to stand up or speak out for someone due to personal interests?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Pray in response to what you have learned from this passage.
  • Meditate on all the different types of suffering Jesus went through in today’s passage. Pray and give thanks that he went through it all to save us from sin, guilt and shame.
  • Pray for someone that you know who is suffering from injustice.

SAT, 4th April

John 19:16-27

Questions

  • What irony can you detect in this passage?
  • The quote in verse 24 is taken from Psalm 22. This was a psalm written by King David, one that was both about David himself, as well as a prophetic psalm pointing to what would happen to the Messiah. Read the psalm and think about how Jesus’ life, death and resurrection fulfilled these words.
  • Is Jesus your king? How does your life demonstrate this fact? Give concrete examples.

Prayer Suggestions

  • Worship God in your prayers and acknowledge Jesus’ kingship over you. Yield yourself to Jesus and ask him to become greater in your life.
  • Jesus died on the cross so that you can be set free. Pray to never get sick of hearing the gospel, but that you will marvel at it all the days of your life.
