- There are several mentions of “we know” in this passage. What are the things that are known? Is your life built on these foundations?
- Thinking back to the past two weeks, what are the major themes in 1 John? What was particularly encouraging or challenging? Share with your life group.

- Give thanks for what you have learned from reading 1 John.
- Pray for Pastor Stephen and the church leaders to continue growing in Christ and be given wisdom to discern God’s direction for our church.

- Read this article on 1 John 1:6-2:11 and apply the tests to yourself: “Three Tests“. How well do you think you fare? It’s okay, we are all in this walk together.
Prayer Suggestions
- Give thanks for the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in your life.
- Pray to strengthen one or two aspects of your walk with God.
- Pray for the unbelievers among our church community, that God would open their hearts to him and for opportunities to speak to them about Jesus.

Questions
- Why was John writing to the church (which he called the “lady”)?
- Do verses 10-11 contradict John’s own teaching about love? Why was he so harsh here?
- Do you love the truth? Have you ever defended the truth to someone who questioned it?
- Reflect on verse 12, which is quite fitting for our time. Do you feel the same way about meeting your brothers and sisters?
Prayer Suggestions
- Pray that we, individually and as a church, will be careful not to tolerate false teaching or welcome false teachers.
- Ask God to shorten the time of separation so that we would be able to see our brothers and sisters face to face, and that our joy may be complete!
- Pray for the world regarding the coronavirus situation.

- Reflect on verses 5-8. What was Gaius doing? In what ways have you partnered (showed hospitality, served, or gave financially) with gospel workers outside of our church? If you haven’t been partnering, would you like to start?
- Why would John ask Gaius to greet the friends there “by name”?

- Give thanks for two friends you know who are walking in the truth and are faithful to God.
- Pray for willingness and opportunity to partner with missionaries and other gospel workers around the world for the glory of God.
