John 19:28-37

Questions

  • In verse 30, Jesus said, “It is finished.” What did Jesus mean by that?
  • What Scripture were fulfilled in this passage? Look them up. Why is it important to know that Jesus’ death was prophesied in the Bible?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Give thanks that we can be confident about Jesus being the Messiah because his life, death and resurrection were all prophesied about in the Old Testament.
  • Praise God that Jesus accomplished his mission and did everything that was needed to save us from sin and judgement.

TUE, 7th April

John 19:38-42

Questions

  • What do we find out about Joseph of Arimathea? What might have prompted him and Nicodemus to now come out into the open?
  • Do you think it’s okay to follow Jesus secretly? How might you walk with someone who is too fearful to confess Jesus openly? Read about an ex-Muslim lady’s story Facing Family: When a Muslim Becomes a Christian”.
  • Read Isaiah 53:9. How was this fulfilled?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Pray that we may love Jesus so much that we would openly confess our love for him and be unashamedly Christian in the way we interact with others.
  • Pray for many brothers and sisters who have converted from Islam and are struggling to follow Jesus openly because of persecution and the very real penalty of death. Pray for their faith in Jesus to grow and ask God to comfort, guide, and protect them from harm.

WED, 8th April

John 20:1-10

Questions

  • Which verses from this passage tell us that the disciples weren’t expecting the resurrection of Jesus?
  • Verse 8 tells us that John (the other disciple) saw and believed. What did he believe?
  • Some people criticise the accuracy of the resurrection account and claim that the differences in the details between John’s Gospel and the other Gospels are irreconcilable. Read this explanation: “Do the Gospel Resurrection Accounts Contradict Each Other?” (useful to understand).

Prayer Suggestions

  • Show appreciation to God for all the different writers who recorded different perspectives of the resurrection. Give thanks that they were all reliable witnesses and together their accounts provide us a clear picture of the glorious resurrection of Jesus.
  • Pray for those who may have doubts regarding the resurrection of Jesus. Pray that God would help them understand the evidence and help them believe. Pray that knowing the reality of the resurrection of Jesus would give them hope.

THU, 9th April

John 20:11-18

Questions

  • What do we learn about Mary’s relationship with Jesus from this passage?
  • What did Jesus mean by saying to Mary, “Do not hold on to me” (v17)? What did he want Mary to do instead?
  • When you share the gospel with others, do you talk about the resurrection as an important aspect of the whole story? Why or why not? Should you be sharing more about the resurrection?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Praise the Lord and marvel at the fact that Jesus has defeated both sin and death and that we will experience a resurrection like his in the future.
  • Pray that we would be eager to tell others about the hope we have because of Jesus’ resurrection. Pray that we would be mindful to include the resurrection when we share the gospel with others.

Today is Good Friday, so let us remember the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary.

SAT, 11th April

John 20:19-31

Questions

  • Out of a score out of 10, what would you award the disciples for their faith and response based on this passage?
  • If Thomas had Instagram, what do you think he would have posted about after his encounter with Jesus?
  • How can people who have not seen Jesus be led to believe in him (v29-31)?
  • Do you still have any doubts regarding Jesus’ resurrection? If yes, what are they? What will you do about it?

Prayer Suggestions

  • Pray for people in our church community who do not yet believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for them by name.
  • Yield yourself to Jesus as your Lord and God (v28). Ask God to reveal areas in your life where you have not yet surrendered to Jesus’ lordship, and then try inviting him to reign over these areas.
