  4. Seeker Monday: take a moment to pray for an unbelieving friend or family member that they would come to know God.

TUE, 7th July

Exodus 16:1-36

Questions

  1. How quick the Israelites were to grumble. Listen to their list of complaints — just how petty they were. And yet, most probably, our lives are not that different. What areas of your life do you find yourself grumbling to God?
  2. Even in their grumbling, God provided in the most amazing way by sending bread from heaven (manna). God’s ways are truly amazing. What are some things that God has provided for you on a regular basis that you may have forgotten about or take for granted?
  3. God gave instruction for the Sabbath — to keep it holy and rest. But he gave twice the amount of bread on the day before so the people would have enough food on the Sabbath. How do you keep the Sabbath holy? How do you find rest during your week?

Prayer Suggestions

  1. Lift up a prayer of confession over the areas of your lives that you find yourself grumbling. Maybe it’s about taking God for granted, maybe it’s discontent. Ask for forgiveness where we have not acknowledged and appreciated God’s hand in our lives.
  2. Thank God for his faithful and amazing provision. Take a moment to reflect on the people around you, the work you’re able to do, and the health you have.
  3. Reflect on the Sabbath. For many of us, we don’t keep the Sabbath because we feel like it’s our own time or that we lack time. Ask God to help you to love and trust him more, that you would keep the Sabbath in a manner of holiness and rest.

WED, 8th July

Exodus 17:1-7

Questions

  1. Do you ever feel that God is distant? The Israelites felt that and asked, “Is the Lord among us or not?” But the provision of water in today’s passage would have shown them that God was there to provide for their need. What are your needs that you’d like to bring to God?
  2. The water came out from the rock due to the obedience of Moses. What areas of your life could use some of that obedience?
  3. God works through leadership. Have you ever considered yourself a leader for God? If not, what is stopping you from stepping up into leadership?

Prayer Suggestions

  1. Pray for your exact needs, that God would provide for them.
  2. Pray for a grateful heart, instead of one that is prone to grumbling.
  3. Leadership Wednesday: take some time to pray for your life group leader, as well as all the other life group leaders. Pray for their spiritual wellbeing, that they are drinking from the living water that is Jesus. Pray for their family and work situations. Pray that God would use them to help shepherd the life groups effectively.

THU, 9th July

Exodus 17:8-16

Questions

  1. We not only see the importance of Moses and his leadership in this passage, but also the importance of Moses’ closest friends that were there to support him. Do you have people like that in your life to support you? Who do you support around you that they would be used by God? Write down their names.
  2. “The Lord is my Banner” (v15) a banner is the name under which you stand; it is whom you represent. Is the Lord your banner? Would the world see that you represent God?

Prayer Suggestions

  1. Pray that your relationship with God would be highly obvious to the world, even before explaining it. Pray that you would represent God well in your circles.
  2. Take some time to pray for the names written down. Pray for those who support you, that hold up your arms when you are tired. Also pray for those that you support, that God would use you to encourage them in following and serving Jesus.

FRI, 10th July

Exodus 18:1-27

Questions

  1. Moses’ father-in-law became a wise sage for Moses, advising him well. Do you have wise mentors in your life? If not, think of people that you could ask to be your mentor.
  2. Once again, God used leadership and structure. But we see that there were many different levels of leadership according to capability. Do you want to be used by God to serve in leadership? What might be stopping you?
  3. Jethro embraced Moses like a son. We see beauty in a healthy family. How is your family? Take a moment to think and pray for your family.

Prayer Suggestions

  1. Pray for your family members.
  2. Pray for your mentors, or potential mentors.
  3. Prayers for leadership, and ask God where you could be used by him for his kingdom.
  4. Mission Friday: take some time to pray for the lost in the world. Out of seven billion people, only about two billion would consider themselves Christian (including Catholics). Pray that God would continue to pursue the lost and use us to be vessels of his love and grace.

SAT, 11th July

As we head into the second half of Exodus, please watch this overview video:

Exodus 19:1-25

Questions

  1. From verses 5-6, it was revealed that if the people obeyed and kept the covenant, they would be God’s treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. It wasn’t long ago that these people felt forgotten in Egypt as slaves. Take a moment to reflect on the amazing turnaround of the Israelites.
  2. God told the people to prepare to meet him. Do you still have that level of awe and respect for God, or has he just become a part of our calendar and schedule? Does the idea of speaking to God bring about fear and reverence?
  3. This chapter sets the scene for God to meet his people. Through Jesus, we now have direct contact with God in prayer. Isn’t that cool?

Prayer Suggestions

  1. Thank God that through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are now a part of that treasured possession and holy nation.
  2. Take a moment to reflect on the attitude that you have when approaching God in prayer. And if God has just become a part of your schedule, ask for forgiveness for not giving him the respect and awe that he deserves.
