MON, 10th August
Exodus 32:1-33:6
Questions
- Take a moment to slowly read over the passage again. What did Israel do to make God so angry? What was God’s response?
- In the midst of judgement, God was still gracious. Where can you that in this passage?
- Do you have a golden calf in your life? Take a moment to consider this: the worship of anything outside of God is idolatry. How would that make God feel?
Prayer Suggestions
- Take an honest moment with God about your golden calf. Whether it be an idol, an escape, a created god, an addiction — take it to God and ask for forgiveness and help that you would be able to turn away from it and turn to God alone.
- Ask God to relent from his anger in the world we live in. Ask him for mercy and grace.
- Seeker Monday: pray for the person you mentioned a week ago. If you know of their “golden calf”, pray against it and for God to become greater than that idol in their life.
TUE, 11th August
Exodus 33:7-11
Questions
- We see this beautiful image of a personal relationship between God and Moses in the tent of meeting. If you were to describe your relationship with God, what words would you use?
- Verse 11 states: “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” What an amazing picture. Would you be able to use this phrase to describe your relationship with God? Why or why not?
Prayer Suggestions
- Take some time to speak to God like as if you were speaking to your friend. What would you say? What would you talk about? What would your posture be?
- Pray that your relationship with God would go deep, personal, and intimate.
WED, 12th August
Exodus 33:12-23
Questions
- Moses said to God, “If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here” (v15). Why did Moses care so much about God going with them?
- God allowed Moses to see the back of him and not his face. What would it be like to see God face to face (apart from the fact that you would die)? Imagine what it would look like, what it would feel like. How have things changed since Jesus came?
- Is there somewhere you feel like God is leading you? Take a moment to reflect on that.
Prayer Suggestions
- Pray this today: God, if your presence does not go with me, do not send me. Please be with me all the time so I know I’m heading in the right direction.
- Pray for peace in your heart, knowing that God is with you and guiding you.
- Leadership Wednesday: pray for the leadership of our church that they would have the same heart and attitude — God, if your presence does not go with our church, do not send us there. Help us to go with you and you alone.
THU, 13th August
Exodus 34:1-28
Questions
- In verses 6-7, God proclaimed his name to Moses. Think back to all the events of the story of Exodus so far… Did God’s actions match his proclamation about himself? How?
- In this covenant that God was making with the Israelites, what did he promise to do for them and what did he expect the Israelites to do?
- What instructions in this passage stand out to you? Why? How is it relevant to you today?
Check out the following video for more information about verses 6-7:
Prayer Suggestions
- Give thanks to God that his actions and words are consistent. Give thanks also because he always keeps his promises.
- Pray that we would be obedient today in all God wants for us. Pray that we would desire to be obedient rather than feel a dull obligation.
- Pray that we would trust in God and his Spirit more than the physical things of this world.
FRI, 14th August
Exodus 34:29-35
Questions
- Moses had spent forty days with God, transforming his physicality. How have you been transformed by God in the past six months? Please share with your life group.
- Read 2 Corinthians 3:7-18, noting the comparison made by Paul between Moses’ ministry and the ministry of the New Testament apostles. Why did the New Testament ministry surpass the previous in glory?
Prayer Suggestions
- Pray that your encounters with God would be of a transforming nature in your life. Pray for the areas where God needs to speak loud and clear so that transformation can occur.
- Mission Friday: pray that this transformation would go beyond ourselves, and into this city, nation, and world. May everything be transformed because of the glory of God.
