MON, 1st June
To kick things off, please watch the following video about the first half of Exodus:
Exodus 1:1-22
Questions
- What do you think this book is about?
- What does the word “exodus” mean?
- Have you ever felt stuck or hopeless? Looking back, how was God at work in the situation?
Prayer Suggestions
- Pray that God would speak to you through this series of Exodus devotions.
- Pray for some of the situations you are currently facing. Pray that God would be actively involved in these situations.
- If there are things that you have been praying about but for which you are still in waiting, ask for more perseverance.
- Seeker Monday: take a moment to pray for a few unbelieving friends or family members, for them to come to meet God.
TUE, 2nd June
Exodus 2:1-10
Questions
- Who was Moses? What do we know about his family?
- Recount the events of this passage one by one. Notice how at each turn, one wrongly timed move would have changed the course of this book.
- What do we learn about the providence (and the plan) of God?
- Do you believe in God’s plan for your life? What are some areas that you struggle to trust God in his planning?
Prayer Suggestions
- Pray that you would be able to trust God’s plans and not your own.
- Pray that you would be sensitive to the movement and promptings of the Holy Spirit in your life as a follower of Jesus.
- Take a moment of silence to just let God speak to you today.
WED, 3rd June
Exodus 2:11-25
Questions
- At this point in the story, do you consider Moses the good guy or the bad guy?
- We see God’s plan for Moses working again even when he ran away. Are there some examples in your life where God worked even though you didn’t expect it?
- Read verse 23-25. How would you describe God’s heart for his people?
Prayer Suggestions
- Pray that today, in all situations, God’s hand will be active in your life.
- Pray that God would use each situation today for good and for his glory.
- Pray that we may understand and adopt God’s heart for his people.
THU, 4th June
Exodus 3:1-6
Questions
- God showed up to Moses in a supernatural way. Have you ever experienced that before — encounter events that defy the logic of our world?
- God is a personal God. How do we see that in this passage? How have you experienced God personally in your life?
- God is holy, which means that he is set apart (from all creation). But oftentimes we treat God as if he is just one of us. When was the last time we gave God the true honour of being a holy God?
Prayer Suggestions
- Pray that God would meet you today, perhaps even in a supernatural and personal way.
- Pray that you may respond to God in a manner that honour him as the Holy One.
- Pray that the holiness of God would be obvious in your life today.
FRI, 5th June
Exodus 3:7-10
Questions
- God knew very specifically about the situation in Egypt and he was concerned. What do you think God would be thinking as he looks at our world today?
- What would he be concerned about when he looks at your life today?
- Have you ever thought that God might be using you for the sake of his plans? How have you responded to this call?
Prayer Suggestions
- Thank God for being close to us and knowing all of the things that are going on in our lives.
- Pray for our city, our country, and our world — that God would listen and respond to the cries of his people seeking for deliverance.
- Has God called you? Pray for humility and readiness to take on whatever God calls you to.
- Mission Friday: pray that nations in our world would all become more open to the work of God through his servants.
SAT, 6th June
Exodus 3:11-22
Questions
- This passage provides context on who God is and who we are. God is God and we are not. What are the areas in your life where this gets mixed up?
- Verse 12 says, “When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” God provided this promise to Moses. What are some of the promises that God has given to you?
- Verse 12 also says, “I will be with you.” What does this mean to you today?
Prayer Suggestions
- Pray for the promises that you have received from God: the promise of salvation, and the promise of protection. Pray that God would continue to fulfil these promises.
- “I will be with you.” Spend some time in silence and meditate over these very words. Let the Holy Spirit just be present with you for a moment.
